Gmail goes down yet again

Many of Google’s services are currently undergoing a service disruption. We can confirm that Gmail is down and the server was returning a 502 error. However, some users are reporting a resumption of service. The same was the case for Google Play Store, which was turning back the same 502 error when we tried downloading apps, but is now functioning normally.

While Gmail and the Play Store are still suffering intermittent issues, Google has managed to get Google+ and Search back online, after a brief service disruption. In addition, our Google Analytics was also down for our site, but is now back up. The latest disruption of Google’s services comes after a troublesome month of May, when Gmail was down thrice due to issues with Google’s Postini services.

At the time, Google stated on its Apps Status Dashboard that there was an issue with Postini services, which caused the disruption. “Our network operations team identified a 3rd party issue that was affecting System 200 inbound and outbound mail. Customers were experiencing 421 errors that resulted in deferrals,” Google wrote. Postini is an e-mail and Web security and archiving service that provides cloud computing services for filtering e-mail spam and malware (before it is delivered to a client’s mail server), offers optional e-mail archiving, and protects client networks from web-borne malware.
