Gears of War: Judgment to get DLC with new maps and gameplay mode

Microsoft has announced a new DLC for Gears of War: Judgment. Dubbed the Call to Arms map pack, the DLC includes three new maps and a new gameplay mode. It will be available to season pass owners on the 23rd of April, while the rest of the world will get it on the 30th of April for 1000 Microsoft Points (approximately Rs 674).

The maps in the DLC are set during the Locust invasion of Halvo Bay. The company says that the maps provide a mix between close quarters and vertical combat. It has ten new Achievements, worth a total of 250 Gamerscore.

The maps in the pack include Terminal, Blood Drive and Boneyard. Terminal revolves around COG soldiers keeping the Locust invasion at bay long enough to evacuate Halvo Bay. Blood Drive revolves around fighting in a hospital in Halvo Bay. Boneyard takes place  in a graveyard that has graves of the soldiers who fought against the Locust.

The new game mode, Master At Arms, is a free-for-all mode that doesn’t have any teams. The game mode is a lot like Gun Game from Call of Duty where you have to kill enemies with the weapons given to you, and every time you kill an enemy, you get a new weapon. The first person to use all weapons to kill enemies wins.

Back in March, Epic Games and People Can Fly had released a set of maps for the game’s multiplayer for free. The map pack was part of the game’s first patch and includes the Haven map as well as the Execution game mode. You can grab the DLC from either the in-game menu, the Xbox 360 Dashboard or the Xbox website.

The new game mode—Execution—is like the previous games’ Warzone game mode. It is essentially a team deathmatch with a couple of twists here and there. The first is the time limit. The other major twist is that when you kill an enemy, they need to be executed, otherwise they can simply get back up and continue fighting. The game mode was present in Gears of War and Gears of War 2, but was curiously absent from the third game.

Gears of War: Judgment was released earlier in March for the Xbox 360. The game has been developed exclusively for Microsoft Studios by Epic Games and People Can Fly. Microsoft calls the game “an adrenaline pumping prequel”, and this time around there’s a new protagonist: Damon Baird. The game also offers an expanded weapons arsenal, and there are more intense boss fights and enemies in the offing.

The game’s brand-new multiplayer experience, OverRun, is a new class-based competitive mode, which Microsoft says is unlike anything fans of the series have seen before. The company is even talking up the game’s cooperative gameplay system on Xbox LIVE and as we said in our single player review of the game, that aspect of the game promises good things.

Check out what we thought of the single player campaign of Gears of War: Judgment in our review.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
