Games of March 2012

March surprisingly is a beefed up month for video game releases, rustling up a rather diverse platter of genres. You have everything from survival horrors to sci-fi action RPGs to over-the-top extreme sports games and lots more. Here are the games of March 2012.

Ninja Gaiden III (Xbox360 PS3)

Unlike Ninja Gaiden II where limbs flew all over the place all the time, Team Ninja has decided to tone down the gore for reasons we still can’t seem to comprehend. Instead they want you to experience the act of stabbing someone with a sword. How that doesn’t result in decapitation is beyond us.

Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City (Xbox360 PS3 PC)

In Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City, the action has now moved back to Raccoon City where players must face off against the blood thirsty horde purging the streets from anything that’s dead. You’ll get to play as both a Special Operations team, the good guys as well as Umbrella Corporation’s Security Service, the shady guys who basically have to clean up Umbrella’s mess.

Inversion (Xbox360 PS3 PC)

From the guys who brought you the rather enjoyable time manipulating shooter TimeShift comes a new third person, cover based shooter in which you manipulate gravity. Think of the run and gun mechanics from Gears of War, only now you have the ability to alter the environment by literally turning it upside down.

Silent Hill: Downpour (Xbox360 PS3)

In Downpour, players step into the boots of Murphy Pendleton, a prisoner who finds himself in the creepy town of Silent Hill after his transport vehicles breaks down. Unlike Homecoming that was rather combat heavy, Silent Hill Downpour aspires to go back to the olden Silent Hill days where the focus was solely on scaring the crap out of players.

Mass Effect 3 (Xbox360 PS3 PC)

Mass Effect 3 will be the final chapter in Commander Shepard’s trilogy as he strives to protect Earth against a massive Reaper invasion. Gameplay in Mass Effect 3 largely stays the same as previous iterations with the noticeable addition of co-operative multiplayer.

Binary Domain (Xbox360 PS3)

Yet another third person action game with a cover system, Binary Domain is kind of like Gears of War only instead of slaughtering hordes of horrible Locusts, you’re taking on a highly advanced race of hostile robots. What sets this game apart from the crowd however, is the ability to issue commands to your squad using your actual voice.

Silent Hill HD Collection (Xbox360 PS3)

Return to Silent Hill… if you dare.

Return to Silent Hill… if you dare.

Silent Hill 2 has unanimously been hailed as one of the creepiest games ever made so it was only a matter of time before Konami re-released the game in HD. However instead of only releasing this game, they’ve decided to bundle it up with Silent Hill 3 to form the Silent Hill HD collection. Why they left Silent Hill 1 out of the equation is still a mystery to us.

Unit 13 (PS Vita)

From the makers of the SOCOM series and the PS3 exclusive MAG comes Unit 13, a third person tactical shooter exclusively for the Vita. There’s really not much to be said about this game because it feels a lot like its (spiritual) predecessors. Worth checking out only if you’re a fan of the genre.

I am Alive (Xbox360)

I Am Alive, Ubisoft’s survival action adventure has been dead for a while. The game’s also gone through a plethora of changes, beginning life as a full-fledged game only to end up a downloadable title for the Xbox360 via Xbox Live. The story still stays the same wherein you play as a survivor who’s looking for his wife and child through a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

FIFA Street (Xbox360 PS3)

A reboot of sorts of the FIFA Street franchise, FIFA Street will basically play out like the 2005 iteration which translates to soccer on the streets. The most striking difference over here is the art style that seems more grungy and realistic as opposed to 2005’s cartoony style. Expect newer players and of course, tons of new moves.

Street Fighter X Tekken (PS3 Xbox360 PC)

Yet another cross over fighting game from Capcom, this one pits the fighters from the Street Fighter universe against those from the Tekken universe to decide once and foreall which universe has the hardest fighters. This game will also make an appearance on the PS Vita as announced by Capcom last week.

Nash, as he prefers being called, woke up to the wonders of gaming rather late but don't bring that up around him. It's a touchy subject. A self confessed Battlefield veteran, Nash spent a good part of 2010 on the Steam Battlefield - with Bad Company (see what we did there?). He has a zero tolerance policy towards RTS games but is currently showing an interest by picking up and moving people - who he refers to as units - in the office. Thank God he's not that enthusiastic about Angry Birds or we'd be seeing women flying all over the place. Bali... Bali, put the receptionist down now. see more
