Gamers start petition pleading Microsoft to bring back Xbox One's sharing features

In the wake of Microsoft’s complete U-turn on the Xbox One’s DRM, and by extension, the console’s sharing features, some disgruntled gamers have taken to petition website Change and have started a petition pleading the company to go bring the sharing features back to the Xbox One. The petition aims to get 25,000 signatures before it is shown to Microsoft. Currently, it sits with 18,203 signatures, with an additional 6,797 signatures required.

According to the official description of the petition, “[the Xbox One] was to be the future of entertainment. A new wave of gaming where you could buy games digitally, then trade, share or sell those digital licenses. Essentially, it was Steam for Xbox. But consumers were uninformed, and railed against it, and it was taken away because Sony took advantage of consumers uncertainty.”

While many fans have signed the petition with these intentions, fans of Sony’s PlayStation 4 have also taken to it to the petition and its comment thread with the intention to troll Xbox One fans. Many of the comments on the petition are from supporters of Sony’s no-DRM move. “ill sign to help ps4 so we have no stupid people on the same console as me (sic),” says one of the comments.

Back in June, a self-professed “Xbox Engineer” had taken to Pastebin to air his frustrations and grievances with Microsoft’s decision of revoking the Xbox One’s DRM policies.

According to the engineer, one of the best new features of the Xbox One was Family Sharing, where you could set your Xbox One games to be part of a shared library that could then be accessible by anyone you deem to be family, regardless of where they are in the world. When your family played the shared game, it would actually be a special demo mode where they could play it for a limited amount of time—between 15 to 45 minutes. When the time limit was up, the player would automatically be taken to the online store page for the game, where they could buy it.

The Xbox One is set to hit some markets this year, but India won’t be able to get it till late 2014.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
