Game of the Year 2008

Now that we’ve taken care of various genres, it’s time to honor the best from every platform and here are the nominees…

Gears of War 2

Gears of War was definitely the first killer app on the Xbox 360. With such high expectations to live up to, Epic had to deliver a game – and this is the last time I use this phrase – that was “Bigger, Better and More Badass” in every aspect. Luckily for us, they did! For starters the game felt truly “epic” in scope with humongous battles spread evenly throughout the game making players feel like they were a part of an actual war instead of another corridor shooter.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Continuously assaulting their senses were wave after wave of kick ass scripted events and ingenious enemies that were perfectly placed, never feeling forced or unnecessary. On the multiplayer front you had tons of content to keep you busy for a long time and helping matters even further was the fact that Gears of War 2 was one of the best looking Xbox 360 games of 2008.

Metal Gear Solid 4

Nash, as he prefers being called, woke up to the wonders of gaming rather late but don't bring that up around him. It's a touchy subject. A self confessed Battlefield veteran, Nash spent a good part of 2010 on the Steam Battlefield - with Bad Company (see what we did there?). He has a zero tolerance policy towards RTS games but is currently showing an interest by picking up and moving people - who he refers to as units - in the office. Thank God he's not that enthusiastic about Angry Birds or we'd be seeing women flying all over the place. Bali... Bali, put the receptionist down now.
