Over the last few weeks, there have been a range of leaks regarding the upcoming major smartphone launch from Samsung, the Galaxy Note 2. The last we heard about this smartphone was when the brand teased it in a short clip featuring noted German film director, Wim Wenders for it’s Mobile Unpacked 2012 event. The latest bit of information is far more worthwhile as it points to a range of specifications that are expected to feature in this upcoming phablet from Samsung.

The specifications for this smartphone had leaked in the past but there are some notable changes in the new list that has recently surfaced in a Seoul newspaper. The publication has provided an image detailing some of the specifications and the major changes include the fact that the processor found here will be a 1.4GHz quad-core processor as opposed to the previously believed dual-core CPU. The other big difference is in regard to the resolution with the image displaying the handset coming equipped with a 1,280 x 720-pixel density for the 5.5-inch display.

Captured in the wild

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to be unveiled in a few days

Here is a brief look at what one can expect to find on the handset once launched:

  • 5.5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with a 1280 x 720
  • 4G LTE, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, NFC
  • GPS possibly with GLONASS and A-GPS support
  • Bluetooth possible v4.0 with USB and hopefully USB-on-the-go
  • 8 megapixel AF/ Touchfocus camera with full HD video recording and playback
  • A front facing camera for video calls and chats
  • 16GB and 32GB versions, all with expandable support
  • MHL for AV out

Earlier reports have indicated that the next generation Galaxy Note is expected to feature the Pen-tile matrix display instead of the RGB variant used in the S II. Apart from the screen size, the design is said to be heavily inspired by the Galaxy S III, so we can expect a similar form factor with heavily rounded edges and a pebble-like design. If the Note II is indeed modelled around the S III, there is a good chance that the phone will get some or all of the ‘S’ features such as S Beam, Smart Stay eye tracking and Smart Voice.

This handset is also believed to be equipped with a flexible screen, owing to which it can withstand bumps to an extremely large degree. The report also says that the semi-flexible screen used on the Galaxy Note 2 will allow the handset to be thinner, and this will also help the manufacturer to add a larger battery to the device.

Samsung is expected to unveil the device on 29 August at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event.

The video features Wim Wenders, a German film director, and the concept of the teaser revolves around ‘all the things you can do in the blink of the eye with such a small and light thing’. The video does display the stylus and its pen-touch input capabilities, but nothing else to show off the looks of the Galaxy Note 2. In case you have missed it, here is the video for you.
