Future Apple iOS Devices to be Fingerprint Free

Most smartphones and tablets available in the market today look really slick and classy. However, a major issue with all touchscreen devices is the fact that they retain fingerprints. This is annoying as fingerprints leave ugly smudge marks on the devices making it difficult to maintain their style quotient. Taking the lead to finding a solution, Apple has submitted a patent to ensure smudge-free future iOS Devices.

According to a report by Cult of Mac, Apple has submitted a patent to the US Patent and Trademark Office. The Cupertino-based company has experimented with a technique depositing an oleophobic substance that bonds with the screen using a liquid application called Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD).

Describing this process Apple says, “The oleophobic ingredient could be provided as part of a raw liquid material in one or more concentrations. To avoid adverse reactions due to exposure to air, heat, or humidity, the raw liquid material can be placed in a bottle purged with an inert gas during the manufacturing process.” The company further explains, “The bottle could be placed in a liquid supply system having a mechanism for controlling the amount of raw liquid material that passes through the liquid supply system. Upon reaching the vaporizing unit, the liquid could be vaporized and the oleophobic ingredient within the liquid can then be deposited on the electronic device component surface. As the liquid supply is drained from the bottle, additional inert gas is supplied in its place to further prevent contamination.”

This patent was filed in February, so it may be too soon for it to appear in the next generation of iOS devices. But let’s hope in the very near future, these greasy stains don’t hamper your iOS experience.
