Web-based applications manufacturer, AdventNet Inc. has unveiled a new addition to its range of online application tools, called Zoho Notebook.
The Zoho notebook, unveiled at Demo 07, is a free web based application for adding and editing text, digital audio and video and images or even content from other Zoho applications along with easy to use whiteboard functionality. Feartures of the Zoho Notebook include, the ability to combine text, images, audio, video, with the help of tools for writing, drawing and adding content from any source. Zoho Notebook may be used by a broad audience including business professionals, educators and students, small businesses or any organization with content to publish and share.
Users are also able to Aggregate Content with an easy to use interface, to add and combine content from multiple applications and sources, such as Web pages, RSS feeds, presentation slides, or digital audio and video. Content can be organized on a single page, as separate pages of one virtual notebook, or in separate notebooks. Moreover, the application offers Firefox and IE plug-ins for instant web clipping, along with Skype integration for instant chat and IP telephony.
The application also allows users to collaborate online with applications such as Zoho Writer and Sheet. Zoho offers the ability to share and edit content, at the individual object level. This means, users can share a single image or selection of text from a page rather than the whole document, giving the author absolute control over how much information is shared with others.
“Web-delivered services are all about empowering the individual, and with Notebook, Zoho is fundamentally changing the way that we create and consume content,” said Chris Shipley, executive producer of DEMO. “This technology is useful to you whether you are a teacher, student, businessperson or blogger.”
Ian Wenig, vice President, Business Development at Zoho said, “We were delighted to be selected to preview at this prestigious event and also very excited about Notebook’s upcoming release. Notebook represents the next-generation of Web- based application by enhancing individual creativity through the combination of multi-media and collaboration tools.”
Zoho’s list of online applications include, a word processor (Zoho Writer), spreadsheet (Zoho Sheet), wiki (Zoho Wiki) and presentation package (Zoho Show). The latest entrant seems to be aimed at Microsoft Office 2007’s OneNote, which has similar features. Zoho Notebook is currently in a limited alpha test mode, and is expected to be released for public beta, some time in March.
