Forget Aakash: Asus' Memo 370T is a must buy

Asus had announced that it will launch its Memo 370T in the month of May for Rs 15,000. The tab should be on your list of buys if you are planning to purchase one this summer.

For those customers who don’t want to buy Aakash because it doesn’t sound very sturdy but can’t afford the iPad or a Samsung tab because of budget issues, there’s cause for cheer. The Indian tablet market is growing withTaiwanese PC maker Asus also making a big entry into the market. The firm is offering somepretty good options for tablets which will be available from May. We take a look at two products that will soon be on offer.

The first is Asus’ Memo 370T tablet which will be available for sale in May for Rs 15,000. The tablet should be on your list of buys since it’s not that expensive. Nor is it a wimp of a tablet when it comes to processing power. The Memo 370T comes with a Tegra 3 quad core processor, so you can be assured of relatively faster browsing and multi-tasking. In terms of software, it comes with Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich which is the latest operating software from Google. The tab will be available with 3G capabilities and has SIM slots as well.

Other specifications include one GB RAM, a micro USB port, a micro SD card reader, and a micro HDMI port. A major plus is its eight mega-pixel camera which will make taking videos and pictures from your tab a damned good experience.

Asus also launched it’s more expensive, tablet cum PC Eee Pad Transformer for Rs 49,900. Our tech expert, Kevin Anderson had rated the Eee Pad Transformer as one of the best gadgets of 2011. According to him, “The Taiwanese computer and gadget maker Asus is one of the more experimental companies, and its Transformer series of tablets is one of its more successful attempts to create a new class of gadget. Part tablet, part notebook, the Transformer Prime now sports Nvidia’s five-core Tegra3, and with the extra battery in the option keyboard, you’ll get a staggering 18 hours of use .”
