Widening its scope in the Indian market, e-commerce giant Flipkart has now launched an e-book application for three more platforms-iOS, Windows Phone and PC- after introducing e-books in November 2012 with an Android application. All the apps are available for free from respective app stores.
Flipkart has also tied up with Nokia to pre-install the app on all upcoming Nokia Lumia phones.
The apps will also sync across platforms, which means users will be able read on their computers and then switch to their phone, without having to go through the annoyance of finding find what page they are on.

Moreover, the apps will also let users read the first 10 percent of any book before deciding whether or not to buy it.
Data from VC Circle shows theeBook app for Android had crossed 50,000 downloads from 25,000 customers within a month of its launch while the Android e app has 87,000 users to date.
Flipkart, which had launched its eBook category with over 1 lakh titles, now plans on increasing this number to 10 lakh by the year-end but is not looking at launching a hardware device akin to Amazon’s Kindle any time soon.
“Providing seamless content, regardless of platforms, will be a big part of our strategy to further strengthen this position and extend it to the digital space,” Mekin Maheshwari, Head (Payments and Digital Media) at Flipkart was quoted as saying by the Business Line. However, the biggest challenge for the firm, which recently shut down its digital music download business, continues too becurbing problems relating to piracy and micro payments.
