Flipkart Android app revamped with new UI, payment options and order tracking

Flipkart has finally launched a native Android app. The e-commerce site earlier had its mobile shopping site packaged as an app. The interface is pretty decent and Flipkart has tried to offer a similar feel as its desktop site.

The interface lets users navigate through all product categories under “Shop by Departments” which shows fashion & accessories, electronics & appliances, books & entertainment, and kids & baby care. Users can swipe across the screen to view the other categories. An icon on the upper left corner shows all the categories in the form of a list. Users can filter searches and sort products depending upon popularity, price, brand, discounts and relevance too. The homepage also shows some big discounts and what’s “selling hot” on Flipkart.

Users can filter searches and sort products depending upon popularity, price, brand, discounts and relevance too. The app lets users zoom into images with support for pinch and zoom gesture. However, this feature didn’t work efficiently for us on the Galaxy Nexus. The app also shows ratings and reviews for products. It allows users to buy products on-the-go, by retaining almost all payment options such as COD, credit/debit cards, EMIs and NetBanking from the web version. In addition to this, users can also track their shipping orders directly from the smartphone.

One can directly share links to interesting products with friends through SMS, Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and other services. The app also supports voice search and barcode scanning. The 3.02MB file installs quickly, and asks for a list of permissions ranging from use of camera to access storage. The app can be downloaded from the Google Play store .
