Flipboard faces yet another outage; team promises fix soon

Flipboard, the social magazine app, is facing yet another outage, presumably under the weight of all the Google Reader feeds its servers are being overloaded with currently. The app’s team had admitted earlier that the service was facing issues.

The current outage seems to be widespread with users being unable to see any content from news or social feeds within the application. The first few users to report the outage this morning posted screenshots of Flipboard categories going blank. The screens, which usually contained image thumbnails that kept changing, showed greyed out cells that read “no content”.

Flipboard confirmed in a tweet that the service was indeed facing issues and the team was working on it. It also confirmed that user magazines were safe.

This issue is different from the outage that was caused earlier this week on Flipboard. There was considerable panic as users discovered they were being unable to find feeds on Flipboard they had migrated from Google Reader. The timing was uncanny since the outage took place only a day after Google’s RSS service breathed its last.

Fliboard had issued a statement to soothe frayed nerves and assured users that their feeds were safe and sound. The team said that there were temporary issues with the feeds, thanks to all the content going into the systems at once and that they needed a bit longer to populate feeds.

The glitch meant that users found their summary feed dead as well as content missing. Flipboard assured that the issue would be solved “soon”, but it looks like it has run into more trouble as far as keeping feeds online go.
