Wink , the social search engine, has announced the public release of the first search engine that allows people to search across multiple social networks and find other people with similar interests.
New Social Networks will be added to the search engine every few weeks. Wink People Search users are helping to prioritize these new additions by voting for their favorite social networks.
“Wink searches across over 100 million people from all walks of life,” said Michael Tanne, founder and CEO of Wink. “We are really excited about helping people connect across continents and cultures as our searchable index of public profiles from multiple social networks grows into the hundreds of millions.”

By searching across multiple social networks, people can have one place to find new friends, discover new interests and stay connected across many social networks. Wink People Search also provides several ways to search for people by their interests, affiliations, general location (no addresses), musical tastes, age and occupation. It gives communities tools to block spam, and bookmark, rate, and organize the best Web sites, and then apply Wink’s patent-pending PeopleRank technology.
Wink maintains that it respects the privacy of its users and the privacy policies of every social network it searches. It says that it will leave out privacy-protected information and will allow users to opt-out, bringing the number of people it searches lower than the size of the combined social networks. Profiles searchable on Wink are publicly available on their sites of origin. For anyone who does not want their profile to be public, The social search engine has made a collection of links from each social network that explains how to adjust their settings.
Born with the sole aim of correcting people, Sharon took to copy-editing at an early age. In the olden days her methods of correction were rather unorthodox. Don't believe us? Ask the intern who lost two of his er.... Oh ok, I guess we don't talk about that. Now after she got a kid, things have relatively mellowed down. Besides handling the plethora of content that comes out of Tech2, Sharon also handles our sister site, CompareIndia where you can well compare prices of pretty much every electronic item under the sun and CHIP magazine as well, if things weren't heavy enough. She handles a team, all of who seem real happy as long as they're not chained to their desks.
