Firaxis announces Haunted Hollow for iOS

Turn-based strategy veteran Firaxis has announced its new game. Dubbed Haunted Hollow, the free-to-play strategy game will be making its way to iOS devices sometime this spring. The company has not mentioned whether the game will see a release on Android devices.

You build and rule a mansion that spawns monsters. You can then send the monsters to fight rivals for territory. Since it’s a free-to-play game, it’s bound to have micro-transactions. When you’re fighting with rivals for territory, you can power-up with each monster’s own menacing powers and additional enhancements.

Multiplayer is possible through either the Game Centre, or you can play with nearby friends locally using Pass and Play. Publisher 2K claims that the game has been designed for both casual gamers as well as “strategy buffs”.

As described by the developers, here are some of the features you can expect once the game hits your iPhones and iPads:

  • Build and rule a mysterious mansion that spawns freaky monsters, including Vampires, Zombies, Mummies, Witches and Reapers
  • Go head-to-head with rivals to scare townspeople, battle enemies, avoid angry mobs and seize control of the town
  • Power-up with each monster’s own menacing powers and additional enhancements
  • Play single-player or multi-player by challenging friends, both through the Game Center and with Pass & Play
  • Choose from varying Haunted House architecture styles such as the “Lost Temple” and “Mad Scientist”

Alongside this, Firaxis is currently working on a new expansion pack for its ever-popular Civilization V. The expansion, named Brave New World, is going to be released in summer this year. It will add nine new civilisations to the game and each one of them will have new unique units and buildings. The new civilisations will be led by new leaders, for example, Casimir III of Poland.

It also has a new victory condition for those who prefer winning their games with culture. You can use Great Artists, Writers and Musicians to create masterpieces, which in turn will let you gain influence over the other civilisations. The first civilisation to gain a majority of influence over all other civilisations will win.

The expansion will feature a World Congress. The World Congress essentially votes on issues like trade sanctions against rogue nations. You will be able to influence resolutions that could potentially change the game. “A new lead into the Diplomatic Victory ensures that the end of the game will be more dynamic than ever before,” according to Firaxis.

There’s also new International Trade Routes, new wonders and two new scenarios—War Between the States and Scramble for Africa.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
