BlackBerry's new Operating System, BlackBerry 10 will now start providing support for apps created for the latest version of Android, aka JellyBean.
This means that apps created for JellyBean will be able to run on devices running on the new BlackBerry OS, such as the BlackBerry Playbook and all the BlackBerry 10 phones. The move will greatly increase the number of apps on these devices, and users will also get access to the latest version of popular Android apps.
Up until now, the BlackBerry OS only supported Android Gingerbread, an iteration that is almost three years old.
The company is also working on a few things including an emulator for the new runtime allowing apps to run on the BB 10.2 platform.
"BlackBerry is expected to release a stable version of the Android Development Tools for developers by August and thus Android Jelly Bean supported apps may start coming for BB OS 10 by the end of this year", according to the Mobile Indian website.
