Sony has announced a new DLC for the recently released Ubisoft game Far Cry 3. The DLC, called High Tides, will be a co-op pack with new levels and will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3. It will be released in January.

According to Sony, “High Tides will take place where the original six co-op chapters left off. These are the gang’s final moments, and we’re really challenging ourselves to go all-out. We’ve got new missions, tougher fights, bigger competitions, some great up-close time with your favorite characters, and explosive moments unlike anything you’ve seen before.”

Ubisoft had showcased the co-op mode in Far Cry 3 in November through a trailer. The co-op game mode is available to play online, as well as locally through split-screen. Playable characters are Callum the Scottish thug, Leanard the crooked cop, Mikhail the Russian hitman and Tisha the ex-soldier.

The co-op campaign has its own story that is set six months before the events of the single-player campaign. It revolves around the four players being scammed out of their money by pirates. This leads to the four characters chasing the pirates and eventually landing on Far Cry 3’s islands.

Along with typical co-operative play, the co-op mode also has minor competitions between the characters, such as sniping the most amount of enemies or winning races on vehicles.

Ubisoft had introduced the Island Map Editor for Far Cry 3 through a trailer. The editor offers tools that let you generate a random landscape, as well as modify it by adding flora and geological features such as waterfalls and caves. The editor also lets you add structures that can be classified in themes, including a tribal theme, as well as a World War II theme. You can also pick the weather and time of day.

Far Cry 3 also features the single player sandbox mode, where you can add your own additions to maps, including vehicles, characters and generally dangerous fauna. This lets you go around on a murderous rampage through player-created tropical islands.

Earlier, Ubisoft had released a trailer that showcased the multiplaye feature of the game. According to the trailer, the game has many team-based gameplay features, like the ability to revive team mates, as well as having certain points all over the maps that you have to capture using teamwork. The game also features something similar to the scorestreaks from the Call of Duty games in the form of team support weapons.

Everything else in the game’s multiplayer looks the same as we have come to expect from modern multiplayer games, namely, loadouts with unlockable weapons and attachments.

Two game modes shown in the trailer are Firestorm and Transmission. The aim of Firestorm is to set fire to the enemy team’s supply nodes at the same time. Transmission mode has you race across the map to destroy propaganda transmitters. These game modes show how much the Far Cry 3 multiplayer is based on teamwork.

In early November, Ubisoft had released the story trailer for Far Cry 3. In the game, you are originally on the island for a fun vacation. Things go sour when you run into some psychopaths who like murdering and torturing for no good reason. It’s up to you to get stronger, get better weapons and find out what’s wrong on the island. The game will pit you against humans as well as nature, with everything from psychopathic bandits to hungry tigers wanting to eat you.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
