Ubisoft's downloadable game, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, is now available on Steam for PC, Xbox Live for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation Store for the PlayStation 3. The game costs $14.99, which roughly translates to Rs 804, and doesn't require the original Far Cry 3 to run. Ubisoft has also released a trailer that gives us a good idea of what the game is about:
The game seems straight out insane. It goes with the early 80's sci-fi aesthetics of making "the future" look bright and neon-lit. You play Sargent Rex Colt, who is a Mark IV Cyber Commando. Your mission: get the girl, kill the baddies, and save the world. The setting of the game is supposed to be the year 2007, where nuclear war has ravaged the planet Earth.
According to the official description of the game, "Experience every cliché of a VHS era vision of a nuclear future, where cyborgs, blood dragons, mutants, and Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens, Navy Seals) collide."
The game uses the same engine as Far Cry 3, and it's impressive how different it looks when compared to the original. Instead of dense jungles and pirates, we have neon-lit terrorist bases and giant dinosaur-esque Blood Dragons.
Last month, a gameplay video of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon had popped up on the Internet thanks to the game being leaked. The game seems to have more in common with old NES and SNES action games than contemporary titles. Right from the start, the 'cutscenes' look like something out of a Contra or Double Dragon game.
