Facebook will now allow you to take VR selfies!

At Facebook’s developer conference, the team from Oculus showed off what is known to be called as the company’s first VR selfie, complete with a selfie stick! According to a report by CNET, the social networking giant is building apps that make it easy to share photos with people using its Oculus Rift headsets, which puts a screen so close to people’s eyes, that it tricks them into thinking that they are actually in a computer-generated world. In terms of functionality, two people would need to wear Rift headsets would find each other in a specialised room where they see floating avatars, computer images representing them in the virtual world. In the room is a table holding spheres, which represent 360-degree photos, explains the report. If they grab a sphere and put it on their avatar’s face, they are transported inside the photo, and can look around from its centre. During the same event, the highlights of the event were live video and chatbots for Messenger . What wasn’t expected however was an open-source 360-degree camera for Facebook live too. The camera’s been labelled the Facebook Surround 360 and features 17 cameras bolted to a saucer-shaped chassis (think UFOs). 14 wide-angle cameras are scattered around the chassis, a single fish-eye camera is placed on top and a couple of fish-eye cameras are placed at the bottom.
