Facebook’s preparing for its big IPO and one of the concerns that investors have is the iron grip that Mark Zuckerberg has on the social network. However, the company released an addition to its privacy policies on Friday that will further be explained in a conference call later today that indicates that the company will be handing over some decision making control to the users. According to Read Write Web , Facebook has updated their privacy policy to include the following statements: " If we receive more than 7,000 comments concerning a particular change, we will put the change up for a vote. The vote will be binding on us if more than 30% of all active registered users as of the date of the notice vote."
Facebook updates its privacy policies
This is a change for the company whose privacy policies have regularly been questioned and sometimes amended. What isn’t clear in the update, however, is what they will define as an ‘active’ user. A Facebook representative wasn’t available to comment however, as mentioned earlier, they are holding a Q&A session later today to gather feedback on their new policies. Facebook wrote in a blog post that they’re trying to be more transparent about user privacy and users can click on this link to submit a question to the Q&A session.
In order to make users understand all of Facebook’s policies a little easily, the social network also recently launched a Policies page where they gathered all their policies onto one place. The main idea behind the page is “Everything you need to know in one place”. A Facebook representative speaking on the matter said, “This week, we began rolling out the Facebook Terms and Policies Hub, a central resource for all of our policies. Our hope is that this new resource will make our policies more transparent and accessible for the people who use Facebook by offering easy access to answers to specific policy questions ranging from platform to ads to content.”
