Facebook has rolled out the first update for its Snapchat-like messaging app, Slingshot by adding some new features. The messaging service requires that users take a video or photo and sling it (aka send it) to other users. To open a ‘Sling’ that users receive, the recipient also needs to send a sling to the original user. Users could also choose to react to a sling by just double-tapping on the ‘sling’ received. Now users can respond to these reactions, a feature that was not available previously. Replying to reaction is actually a good feature, since it keeps the thread going and very often users had to start a whole new thread just to keep a conversation going. Slingshot also allows users to draw on photos and add text. Facebook has also added a My People tab to Slingshot. This will let users add their phone contacts, invite people via SMS to download the app and also has the Connect via Facebook tab in it. According to the update, the find friends and contacts feature has also been improved. The update has rolled out on iOS for now, and not on Android. As far as the Slingshot vs Snapchat battle goes, we had noted in our review that for now Snapchat is the clear winner. The advantage that Snapchat has is that unlike Slingshot doesn’t rely on the loop system for users to access message. The Snapchat user interface is definitely easier and less confusing when it comes to sharing photos and has the added advantage of sending actual messages as well. Slingshot, however can also be fun and addictive if you and your friends are willing to get creative with the pics and videos.
