Facebook is known to frequently tweak its user interface. Sometimes, these changes also happen across the entire user base. According to a post on the official Facebook Developer blog, the social network company said it was adding new ways for developers to improve their users' experience around engagement, sharing and saving content on Facebook.
Although it's a minor update, the new buttons created by Facebook follow a consistent design philosophy. According to the Facebook blog, the Like button is viewed over 10 billion times each day across millions of websites.
The new buttons are completely backward-compatible with all previous buttons that were made available by Facebook. They are also optimised for mobile devices. Facebook added that 30 percent of Like button impressions come from mobile devices. Considering this, Facebook introduced new button sizes that developers could implement into websites.
Similarly, the Share, Save to Facebook and Follow buttons follow the same design philosophy.
Lastly, the new buttons are also compatible with Facebook Instant Articles. Facebook announced that if the Comments Plugin is installed on a site, then the comments would sync with the Instant Articles version of the article as well. In addition, Facebook also announced two new Chrome extensions – Share to Facebook (click here to install on Chrome) and Save to Facebook (click here to install on Chrome).
