Facebook: Say Happy Birthday with a 15-second video on friends' timeline

Facebook will now allow users to wish Happy Birthday to their loved ones with a video! Reportedly, the company is launching a “birthday video cam” for users which will allow them to post a short birthday-themed video instead of the typical short text posts. The new feature is said to be available on iOS, with Android coming in the next few months. According to a report by TechCrunch , birthdays on Facebook have become a dystopian chore. Typing “HBD” or just “Happy Birthday!” on a friend’s profile is basically the least human way to interact with them. So Facebook is pushing people to record more intimate greetings with its new Birthday Cam feature launching on iOS. This new feature will be posted on a friend’s timeline on their birthday and users can swipe through a series of birthday-themed frames before posting it. The report pointed out that oddly, the videos only appear separately rather than compiled into something more watchable. Even if you just say “happy birthday,” it’s still a lot more unique than typing it. This month, the social media giant itself celebrated its 12th anniversary as Friends Day. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared a post and thanked the social network’s users for becoming a part of the community. To celebrate this occasion, Facebook had introduced a Friends Day video for its users. The videos would not be seen by anyone else unless a user decided to share the presentation.
