If you thought Facebook was becoming increasingly like Twitter with every passing day, here’s another reason to bolster the belief. Facebook is rolling out embeddable posts for everyone finally.
The feature that first made an appearance earlier this month and was available only to a handful of publications is now rolling out to everyone. “Today, we are beginning to roll out Embedded Posts to make it possible for people to bring the most compelling, timely public posts from Facebook to the rest of the web,” a Facebook post announcing the new feature read. Here’s how an embedded post looks on a website.
Embeddable posts allow you to grab a code belonging to any Facebook story like a status update, a picture or even a video and insert it into an article online or even your website. Twitter has been offering embbedded tweets for a couple of years now. Besides embeddable posts, Facebook has offered clickable hashtags and even verified profiles, taking inspiration from Twitter.
Embeddable posts seem to be a step towards letting Facebook be an important and credible news source. A lot of companies as well as celebrities choose to treat their Facebook pages as an important platform to break news and share images. Embeds will help them gain more eyeballs as well.
To grab a code off a page or a publically shared post by an individual, hit the downward-facing arrow button on the top right of the post. Click on “Embed Post”, copy the code and paste it into the HTML window of your blog or website and you’re done. Initially Facebook was offering these codes only to publications like Mashable, CNN, Huffington Post amongst others, but now you can take full advantage of this feature.
