Facebook had announced plans to get rid of some ad units from the website last year. Now, an updated roadmap for Facebook developers has shown Facebook’s plans to banish sponsored stories from its ecosystem. The system is going to stop completely on April 9, 2014. In a post aimed at spreadring general awareness about the ad unit, Facebook wrote that it had already contacted its ad partners and marketers, informing them that they will no longer be able to purchase sponsored stories on the website anymore. Come April, you will no longer see the controversial sponsored stories ad as you scroll through your News Feed. Replacing sponsored stories are social context ads that will appear next to all ads shown on Facebook. These ads in social context include stories about where your friends have checked in, pages they’ve liked and more. Facebook said that the notice given to marketers will ensure that they update their tools by the end of the first quarter of this year. As far as the system goes for everyday users, Facebook has reiterated that they will be in complete control of all the stories that may or may not appear as part of this social context advertising unit. You can scroll through your activity log to ensure your privacy and choose who sees what stories about your social actions. Users can change the audience or even unlike and delete the content at any time. Facebook has also introduced a way for you to set a limit to how many stories are paired with ads shown to friends. You can head on to the Ads and Friends page on Facebook and make changes. Facebook, in the past, has been under fire from many privacy advocates, especially with its controversial sponsored stories ad system. A **class action lawsuit** was filed against Facebook that said that the site’s sponsored stories contained their names and likenesses without their consent. With a revamp of their ad platform, Facebook is also trying to make sure that the control never leaves the users’ hands.
