Remember Facebook’s Notify app ? It was launched in October last year and let you get notifications from your favourite publishers. Well, the social giant has decided to pull the plug on the service. The app apparently had 70 partners including Bloomberg, CNN, among others, who have now been notified about the move. Facebook has said that the technology powering Notify will be used in the social giant’s other products and Messenger tops that list. In a statement to TechCrunch, a Facebook spokesperson said, “Starting on Wednesday, we will begin integrating Notify functionality into other Facebook products, like Messenger, and will be removing Notify from the App Store. Since launching Notify, we’ve learned a lot about how to make notifications as timely and relevant as possible and we heard from people using the app that Notify helped them stay informed about things they cared about throughout the day.” When launched, the app was aimed at competing with Twitter’s service called Moments, which was designed to provide a better way of curating and aggregating news content for users and help them follow live events. Moreover, Facebook also teams up with publishers to launch “Instant Articles”.
