Facebook Messenger testing new feature to share GIFs easily: Report

Facebook Messenger has begun testing a new feature which makes it easy for users to find stickers and GIFs all in one place. As of now, the new feature is reportedly available to a select group of users in Canada.

According to a report by Mashable , finding the right GIF is a slightly more ‘cumbersome’ process as its requires the user to tap first on the More icon above the keyboard and then go to the individual app and search. The report pointed out that as of now, the search feature is available from Gifphy and Riffsy. However, a Facebook spokesperson confirmed that the number of apps it supports will grow.

Prior to this, users would need to download apps separately which made the process far more tedious. The new features will make sending GIFs much easier and convenient. In conversation with Mashable, a Facebook spokesperson said that, “We think Messenger is the best way to express yourself, but we’re constantly thinking of ways to improve.”

According to a previous report , Facebook Messenger has managed to cross 500 million users. That’s a big number especially when you consider that Facebook already has 1 billion users. Facebook’s Messenger is now officially in the same league as WhatsApp (recently bought by Facebook), Line and WeChat.

In fact one of the biggest changes to Messenger this year wasn’t just the stand-alone app, but also a new head: former PayPal CEO David Marcus. In an exclusive interview to Wired  Magazine’s Jessi Hempel, Marcus spells out the next plan of action for Facebook Messenger: One billion users.
