Facebook Messenger for iOS gets stickers

Facebook has released an update to its Messenger app for iOS. This app update sees the return of the very popular swipe-to-delete action as well as the addition of stickers.

For those not in the know, stickers are larger, far cuter version of your everyday circle-faced emoticons. Instead of sending dull, drab circular faces, you can choose between well-sketched critter characters on the Messenger.

There are various sticker packs available on Messenger that you can download for free and add them to your conversations. These stickers will show up even if the person you’re chatting with is not using a mobile app. Of course, being better sketched than normal emoticons, these stickers eat up half the message box at times.

Cute, aren’t they?

Users with iOS devices will now be able to send their friends some tired, bored or happy tiger stickers in the middle of conversations using Messenger. Earlier, it was possible to send these stickers if you were using the general Facebook app for iOS. This feature has now been rolled out to the standalone Messenger for iOS app too.

These fun sticker packs are currently available for free on both Android and iOS versions of Messenger, but it’s possible that Facebook might start charging for premium ones soon. Currently, private social network Path is another app that has this feature. It allows you to download the first two packs for free and thereafter charges you $1.99 for every pack of twelve new stickers.

These stickers will be taking a while to appear in the Messenger app on all iOS devices, so don’t fret if you cannot already see these cute critters. Facebook estimates that it will be a few weeks before this feature completely rolls out to all users.

Another feature Facebook has added – rather brought back – is the swipe-to-delete action. Now you can simply delete conversations by a swiping action, something regular users had been missing in the app.

You can download the Messenger for iOS app from the App Store and add some fun to your conversations with these critters.
