Live video is catching up really fast as we just heard video giant YouTube announcing its own mobile live-streaming service which is arriving for consumers very soon. Facebook has been running the live video service for PC and mobile users for sometime now and to take things further, the company made a new announcement at the ongoing VidCon in California.
Facebook announced that users of MSQRD, the popular face-tracking and 3D face-placement app, will be able to use the same filters to go live on Facebook directly from within the app. Facebook acquired MSQRD back in March and according to Fidji Simo, Facebook’s director of product, ever since the acquisition they have been working to build their imaging technology to Live.
The new feature is said to arrive on iOS in the coming weeks. Facebook will also add a feature which will allow users to go live with another person later this summer. There is also a feature in the works where users will be able to schedule a live video, to create and build up an initial buzz.
This move makes it clear that Facebook wants to compete with Snapchat which has gained a lot of popularity in the past one year.. Snapchat recently overhauled its app to bring in live feeds from around the world with trending topics.
