Facebook is testing ad placement for businesses on Messenger

We know ads can be annoying but that is one of the ways how businesses gain money, especially in the digital world. Facebook is planning to do the same with its Messenger app. According to a blog post by Product Manager, Eddie Zhang, Facebook is rolling out a small test in Australia and Thailand this week where it will allow businesses to place ads on the Messenger home screen. The appear as prominent card-style ads which feature image thumbnails along with text and a link and will be placed below your recent conversations. Thankfully these ads will not appear in conversations unless a user chooses to click on the ad or start a chat with the brand. ![facebookmessengerads](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/facebookmessengerads.png) “Businesses have long been telling us that they are very excited about the potential of the Messenger platform to reach their customers and help them to drive sales, build brand awareness and increase customer satisfaction,” said Zhang in the blog post. Having over a billion monthly users, the Messenger app currently provides businesses to reach customers through News Feed ads that take users into a chat session and sponsored messages. The addition of the new ads feature could help businesses to reach out more people, that is of course if users don’t mind seeing the large ads. Of course this is still under testing and there is a possibility that Facebook will thoroughly consider the consequences before it makes the feature live for everyone.
