Facebook is introducing yet another new feature in order to entice you to spend more time on the website. Say hello to shared albums on Facebook. You will now be able to upload to collaborative albums along with your family and friends.
This seems like one more feature Facebook has adopted that has been inspired by another social networking website. While Facebook has borrowed verified pages and hashtags from Twitter in the past, shared albums seem to be one it has borrowed from Pinterest.
Mashable has reported that the feature, which is rolling out today, will let you add contributors to your album, giving them permission to upload and edit pictures in the album. A new button will be visible on the top right of the album page using which you will be able to invite family and friends to join in making a collaborative album.

The only catch here is that you will only be able to add 50 contributors at one time and each of them can upload up to 200 pictures in one album. As far as privacy of this particular album goes, there are new options Facebook is rolling out. You may choose to let the album be visible only to contributors, friends of the contributors or the general public.
Currently the feature will be a desktop-only affair with plans to go mobile soon. Engineers over at Facebook are mulling over improving the initial experience by raising the photo limit above 200 soon as well as adding mobile support. The idea for this new feature was tossed at Facebook’s company-wide hackathon session and seems promising.
The shared album feature will especially be helpful to create a common album for a trip or an event where multiple people have snapped images. You could also go the Pinterest-inspiration way and toss around images of ideas in a closed group with a few participants. The shared album feature is rolling out to select users who’ve activated Facebook in English with a wider rollout expected soon.
