Facebook introduces 'Live' for Mentions, but only for celebrities

Facebook has ensured that it isn’t late to the live streaming party. Following Meerkat and Periscope, social network has now introduced a new feature called Live to the Mentions app. The new feature will now allow celebrities such as actors, musicians and athletes to engage with their fans. Users can discover these live videos from the News Feeds of the celebrity they follow. “We’re excited to introduce Live, a new way for public figures to share live video from Mentions with their fans on Facebook. With Live, public figures can take fans behind the scenes, host a Q&A, share announcements, and more — all in real time,” Facebook writes in a blogpost . Facebook calls it an authentic way to connect with fans. Besides access to the video on News Feed, people who have recently interacted with a celebrity’s posts will receive a notification when the broadcast begins. It will allow public figures to reply to comments live during the broadcast or even hide comments. Those who miss out on the live video broadcast will also be able to view it later. For celebrities, here’s how to start a live broadcast from Facebook Mentions: - Tap on Post and then tap on the Live Video button. - Add a description for your broadcast and tap the Go Live button when you’re ready. - During your broadcast, you’ll see how many viewers you have and can respond to comments live. You can also hide comments or switch the front and back cameras of your phone. - End your broadcast when you’re done by tapping on the Stop button. - Your video is automatically saved to your Facebook Page for fans to view later. However, you can remove it at any time, just like any other post.
