Facebook comes out with a button which gives information about publisher source, in its fight against fake news

To deal with the problem of **fake news** and misinformation, Facebook has come up with a new button which would give information about the source and context about the articles which are shared by publishers and people on the social media platform. [caption id=“attachment_4114659” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Facebook. Facebook.](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/facebook-news-380p.jpg) Facebook. Facebook.[/caption] According to a blog post by the product management director, News, Facebook, Andrew Anker, an ‘i’ button will appear on the right side at the bottom of the article. On pressing the button, the user can see the source of the article and some information on the publisher of the  article, if it is available. Secondly, it would provide some additional information through its related articles section. This can be a tool for authenticating the information. Thirdly, it would also share information on the number of people who have shared the article. Thirdly, it would also share information on the number of people who have shared the article. If information about that article is unavailable, then the user would be informed about it. Thus, helping the user to make a better judgment about the publisher. This new feature is being tested currently. Facebook in a statement said, “Helping people access this information can help them evaluate if articles are from a publisher they trust and if the story itself is credible. This is just the beginning of the test.” The data collected by Facebook is from its Facebook Journalism Project which includes feedback community and publishers who collaborate with them. They have pulled out sources from across the platform. Fake news and misinformation has been a nagging problem for news publishers of late. Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter have come under the scanner for their inability to track the authenticity of the news. The Las Vegas shooting being the most recent one where on Facebook’s Safety Check page news was **circulating**  false news about the alleged shooter. This current of fake news was **observed** even during the US Presidential elections last year.
