Facebook Bans Google+ Advertisements

The rivalry between Facebook and Google+ continues. Recently, Michael Lee Johnson, an ad developer for Google tried to post a Google+ ad on Facebook. The quote stated, “If you’re lucky enough to have a Google+ account, add Michael Lee Johnson, Internet Geek, App Developer, Technological Virtuoso."

Facebook Bans Google+

Intially, Facebook had approved of the advertisement, but later realised that Johnson was promoting Google+ on their own site. Facebook sent Johnson a mail stating that his account had been disabled and that all his advertisements had been stopped. One of the rules of Facebook’s terms and conditions state, “A_ds will not be permitted in cases where a business model or practice is deemed unacceptable or contrary to Facebook’s overall advertising philosophy._”  The advertisment posted by Johnson contradicted the terms and conditions of Facebook.

CNET claims that Rupert Murdoch has questioned this advertisement saying that Michael Lee Johnson’s ad was for himself and not for Google+. He also added that Facebook users have a number of places to advertise Google+, such as their Facebook wall, or even their profile picture.

Google+, unlike other social networking sites, gives high importance to security. As more importance is being shown to Google+, Facebook has started new ways of developing their website to retain their users. Facebook has recently started video chat as well as viewing live streaming of comments posted by users on their home page.
