Facebook adds one-tap photo sharing for messenger on Windows Phone

Facebook has updated the performance and added new features to the Windows Phone app for Messenger. The company has improved cache performance for images and stickers, so they load faster during chats. The biggest change is that users can now click and share an image with just one tap. “You don’t have to leave the app to take a photo with a separate camera app. There is a brand new photo gallery feature built into Messenger that gives you quick access to photos on your phone without leaving the app,” Microsoft wrote in a blog.

In addition, users will get better group and contact management. A new groups tab collects all your multi-person chats in one area. Groups can now be pinned to your Start Screen for quicker access, though there’s no word on whether this is a live tile. Download the latest version here.

With WhatsApp on Windows Phone still reeling from the down time from last month, many users may have shifted allegiances to FB Messenger. While both are owned by Facebook, the company is marketing them independently to boost adoption of both. The latest update does put it slightly on par with iOS and Android versions.
