Developers on XDA forums have prepared an Android Nougat 7.0 build for the OnePlus One. This is impressive since OnePlus One was released in June 2014. It is the first phone from the company that won’t be receiving the official update to the latest version of Android. The device initially shipped with Android Kitkat 4.4.4. It was updated to Android Lollipop 5.1 and later was updated to Android Marshmallow 6.0.1. This was one of the rare phones where the OEM assured guarantee if the device was unlocked or rooted. The build available is based on ‘android-7.0.0_r1’ while the kernel is based on CM13. Even though not everything is functional in the ROM, what is impressive is the speed for working out a functioning build. Google uploaded the source code to AOSP just days ago, and we already have a build. Although it’s unofficial, the ROM has a significant amount of progress shown in the build. With all the main features of the ROM working, it comes as a huge step and is expected to improve with time. You can go the XDA forum thread and test the ROM for yourself with the instructions provided. But, keep in mind that this is not an unofficial stable build. The software history of the OnePlus is a complicated one where the company initially partnered with Cyanogen to provide the OS and subsequent updates exclusively for the company, but Cyanogen signed up an agreement with Micromax after the exclusive deal with OnePlus. After a prolonged legal battle, both the companies parted way. Cyanogen continued to provide future updates to OnePlus One, but that agreement was only available for two years. This year in June, the agreement completed the two years, and now the official update can be thought out by OnePlus through its Oxygen OS.
