In March this year, **Instagram rolled out new carousel ads** . According to a blog on Instagram, the idea of the ads was “to match the multi-page ad campaigns found in print magazines. An automobile company, for example, could highlight different features of a new car and include a link to a website with more product information.” In a report in Bloomberg, Facebook VP, Global Marketing Solutions, Carolyn Everson said, ““The notion is to open up the entire suite of Facebook targeting on Instagram over the next few months.” She added, “buying ads on Instagram will become easier. Today, it’s not like you can just check a box if you’re buying things on Facebook and it will also work on Instagram. But we’re working toward that.” In early 2012, Facebook paid $1 billion **to acquire Instagram** . Later that year, Facebook confirmed that it would monetise Instagram. Everson had **said in 2012** , “Well, Instagram continues to grow incredibly fast and we’re still a very small team when you think about the amount of people they are reaching. There are many brands that use Instagram right now to try to get a feel for how to engage with their followers. We will definitely be figuring out a monetisation strategy. When that will happen, I can’t comment, but it’s going to happen.”
