Evernote and 3M partner to digitise sticky-notes

Here’s an unlikely partnership: Evernote is teaming up with Post-it note maker 3M to digitise your stickys. The companies are set to announce new software this week that will let you organise and store photos of Post-it notes.

A report by The Wall Street Journal revealed that the two companies’ will be coming together as part of a natural evolution. Evernote is essentially a note-taking application with added features that help it stay relevant in the digital age. It only makes sense for it to come together with 3M in order to digitise your everyday sticky-notes.

Naturally, the digitised version of the Post-its will come in all the neon-colured glory associated with them. The idea behind the partnership – besides going digital – seems to revolve around paper and reducing dependability on it. Jesse Singh, Vice President of 3M’s Stationery and Office Supplies Division said, “Paper really is still the easiest way to write a thought down and remember it. This partnership seemed an obvious choice for us for the brand.” Evernote’s CEO Philip Libin said that the Post-it had been on the company’s radar for a bit for the stationery item’s sheer simplicity of use. “The Post-it is something we aspire to be,” he said. “They have been a hero product for us.”

3M is already planning to produce packs of Post-it notes with Evernote’s logo on it for a short while as well as offering a free upgrade to Evernote’s premium subscription for about 30 days. The subscription usually costs about $5 but will be given out by the stationery company for no cost.

Libin says that the Post-its colours could be used to denote categories or codes on the software. Pink could be for groceries and yellow for tasks. He also added that off-brand sticky-notes is also likely to work with the application.
