The largest space battle in history has already happened, and it was in a game. According to The Verge, more than 4,000 players simultaneously logged in to massively multiplayer online game Eve Online to duke it out among each other. In fact, the resulting craziness was so much that the developers had to slow down the in-game time by 90 percent so that people who lagged wouldn’t suffer too much.
The fight took place in a system known as 6VDT and was fought between two of the biggest player alliances in the game—TES Alliance and the CFC. The battle started at 3:54 pm EST and went on for more than five hours till 9:18 pm EST. The victor of the battle was the CFC.
One of the most interesting games ever created
The Software Director of Eve Online confirmed on Twitter that this battle was the largest one that the game has ever seen. “The fleet fight in 6VDT-H tonight is the largest ever in EVE, topping at 4070 pilots (so far). Previous was P-2TTL at 3615. #tweetfleet,” said the tweet.
Eve Online is a unique MMORPG, not only because it’s based on space, but also because it has a unique player-driven game world. Instead of other online games, such as World of Warcraft, which have ready-made quests and factions for players to join and fight, almost the entirety of Eve Online is driven by players. There are player-made corporations that grow and fight for power. This gives way to some rather interesting espionage stories that have happened throughout the years since the game’s launch.
