With the popularity of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, it was only a matter of time before someone went all the way with it. A couple of developers have gotten together to start development on a game, dubbed Wicked Paradise, which will be the world’s first erotic virtual reality adventure game.
The game is specifically designed to make use of the capabilities of the Oculus Rift. As the game’s website puts it, “Instead of watching an erotic movie or reading an erotic book in which the main character has exciting sexual adventures, you become that character!”
The development team of the game consists of industry veterans with dozens of shipped AAA games under their belt, including Rage, the Call of Duty series, Lost Planet, Madden and PlanetSide 2, among others.

The lead developer on the game is Jeroen Van den Bosch, who is originally a mobile game developer. “I was always fascinated by the fact that we have hundreds of beautifully crafted shooter games but not a single well designed erotic video game,” den Bosch told Road to VR. “Sure there have been some attempts in the past, but they all have been ridiculously bad.
“There is nothing sexy about unrealistic models that move like rusty robots with faulty servos. If you want to genuinely create an erotic atmosphere in a videogame you need to convincingly cross the uncanny valley.”
Joroen Van den Bosch cites BioWare’s Mass Effect series as a major source of inspiration for the game. “The non-explicit sex scenes in Mass Effect are much more erotic than current available explicit adult video games. This is because you care about the characters in Mass Effect. A player will never feel very attracted to a virtual character if he or she doesn’t care. I believe that virtual reality is the perfect medium for an erotic video game because you can make the player feel really connected to your computer characters,” he says.
Wicked Paradise is set to launch alongside the Oculus Rift in 2014.
