With CP+ just a day away, many camera makers are announcing new products. Canon announced the EOS 1200D - the successor to its older entry-level EOS 1100D,
among other cameras
. With the EOS 1200D, Canon is looking at targetting the first-time DSLR buyer. So is it a decent improvement over the 1100D or just a minor incremental update? Let us find out, at least based on specs and design. One of the most important feature is that the EOS 1200D sports a brand new 18MP APS-C CMOS sensor as opposed to the 12.2MP CMOS sensor seen on the EOS 1100D. But we will see the same DIGIC 4 image processor that was seen on the 1100D. In order to attract entry level users, Canon has also launched an EOS 1200D companion app which comprises a quick-start tutorial about the layout and buttons, step-by-step guides on using the camera and so on. Canon EOS 1200D is a successor to the EOS 1100D and sports a new 18MP APSC sensor[/caption] The Canon EOS 1200D offers an ISO range of 100 - 6400 with a Hi mode which is equivalent of ISO 12800. It has a 9-point AF system with the central AF point being cross-type. It boasts of a 3 fps continuous shooting mode. The design is similar to the EOS 1100D, but the 1200D is touted to have a better build quality. It has a 3-inch 460k dot LCD screen on the rear side as opposed to the 2.7-inch 230k dot LCD screen. It can shoot full HD video as well. It also includes Creative Filters for adding a certain look to your image. It also has features such as the Toy Camera mode, Fisheye mode, Miniature effect and so on. The Canon EOS 1200D is expected to start selling from March onwards at a retail price of USD 549 (approx Rs 32,000) with an 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II kit lens.
