After launching the  Oasis , Amazon has announced an all-new entry-level Kindle that won’t cost you more than Rs 5,999.

Dipped in black and white, the new Kindle comes with twice the memory (8GB) compared to the previous generation. It is thinner and lighter and features a 6-inch touchscreen e-ink display, but don’t expect the 300dpi screen like the Paperwhite. It’s also claimed that the battery has enough juice to last for weeks, but the exact battery capacity has not been disclosed.

“Tens of millions of readers around the world have Kindle e-readers and today, we’re excited to make our most affordable Kindle even better, while keeping the same breakthrough price point,” said Arthur van Rest, General Manager, Kindle. “With a thinner and lighter design, twice the memory, and all the features customers love about Kindle, it has never been a better time to be a reader.”

The cheapest Kindle will also get all new and popular reading features such as Export Notes allowing easy export of notes and highlights from a book to e-mail. There’s a built-in Bluetooth audio to assist for visually impaired users with the new VoiceView screen reader. It also offers a personalised home screen as well as features like new fonts, no need for set-up, Whispersync, Goodreads, X-ray, Smart Lookup, among others.

The new Kindle is available to purchase on the Amazon store  and it should hit the Indian market very soon.

Editor’s note: The story has been updated to reflect the official price in India. The original price published was $79.99.
