Eclipse Design Phone Concepts

Two new concept phones from Rune Larsen, that focus on simplicity and style.

Oh how we love concept phones! They give us a peek into a future that'll become the past in no time at all. Here are two entries from designer Rune Larsen.

First up, the Eclipse Design Phone, which sits pretty as a square with a grid of untitled buttons on it, but one flick of a key and a see-through LCD display pops out like an HUD to display the usual stuff that phones display. The untitled keys also glow up and reveal numbers and letters. One thing to note is that the display is monochrome, instantly denouncing the ability of the phone to handle photos, videos or a camera. When making a concept phone, one can put everything in a phone, including a full HD LCD display, but Rune Larsen's focus has been on simple phones that do only what phones were meant to do: talk and text.

The other concept phone from Rune Larsen is the Tiny Phone, an 8cm long phone that resembles a pocket razor. It has only four number keys which have three ways of being clicked: left, right and down, each of which keys in a different number. The fifth key (if that even is a key) is the silver 'pearl', that pops out the display just like a pocket razor. The display on this one is also mono LCD, being another basic phone meant to just be talked into. I’m not so sure I'd want to attempt to SMS using this phone, though!
