Early access demo for The Last of Us pushed back to May 31

It looks like the demo for Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us is still far off. The company recently tweeted that the exclusive The Last of Us demo for God of War: Ascension buyers will be available just a couple of weeks before the game is released on June 14. Those who bought Ascension will be able to download the demo on May 31, which is almost a month later than the earlier scheduled date of May 7.

The company hasn’t said anything about when the demo for the game will be available to those who won’t be buying God of War: Ascension.

Naughty Dog had announced that those who buy God of War: Ascension would get early access to The Last of Us demo back in January. We found this to be a strange idea, as getting Ascension won’t let you play the demo for The Last of Us almost until it is released.

The release date for The Last of Us was pushed back from May to June, because the company says the game is its most ambitious project yet. “As we entered the final phase of development for The Last of Us, we came to realize just how massive Joel and Ellie’s journey is. But instead of cutting corners or compromising our vision, we came to the tough decision that the game deserved a few extra weeks to ensure every detail of The Last of Us was up to Naughty Dog’s internal high standards,” states a post on the PlayStation blog.

According to Sony, The Last of Us is set to have the biggest campaign Naughty Dog has ever made. The studio may be facing issues in the final leg of development because the IP is completely new and consists of a new universe and new characters in a new genre.

Back in December, Naughty Dog introduced a new character in The Last of Us. Tess, the partner of the main character Joel, is described as strong, smart and street savvy. She is going to be a pivotal character in the world of The Last of Us. She is voiced by Annie Wersching of 24 fame.

Naughty Dog had also let it slip that the game will feature multiplayer. Pre-ordering the game will get you the Sights and Sounds pack, which includes the official soundtrack of the game, a dynamic theme for the PlayStation 3 featuring the cover art, and two avatars for your PSN profile—Winter Joel and Winter Ellie.
