EA has closed another licensing deal with FIFA, the international governing body for football, which allows the developers to produce their ultra-popular FIFA series of games till 2022. It also gives EA official exclusive rights to the FIFA brand and the FIFA World Cup name. The newly-signed contract will be valid till December 31, 2022.
FIFA is one of the games that have generated big revenue for both EA and the football body over the years. The recent sales figures show that EA had sold almost three million copies of the FIFA 13 since its launch last September and there were nearly 65 million games played weekly.

“Our franchise has become the benchmark for quality and innovation in the sports videogame genre, and we look forward to many more years of connecting with consumers around the world with our games carrying the prestigious FIFA name.” said, Andrew Wilson, the executive vice president and head of EA Sports.
FIFA on the other hand believed that the video game had helped the world body to spread the game to more people across the globe as Jérôme Valcke, FIFA’s secretary general said, “The FIFA videogames are a key experiential component in our work to communicate the FIFA brand and its values all over the world.”
So now fans can continue playing newer versions of their favourite football video game at least till the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
