Contrary to what Sony’s head honcho Kaz Hirai said nearly three months ago, it seems Sony is working on a successor to the PlayStation 3, as was reported by Eurogamer today. This news comes via Sony’s executive vice president and chief financial officer Masaru Kato who dropped the bomb in a conference call to investors today justifying Research and Development costs.
What does Sony have up their sleeve?
“For the home equipment the PS3 still has a product life,” he said, “but this is a platform business, so for the future platform - when we’ll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that - but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there.”
This comes as no surprise since Nintendo is all set to reveal the Wii 2 at E3 this year. It also seems, according to certain rumors that Microsoft has been working on a successor to the Xbox360. Either way, we’ll get to know more at E3 2011.
