Amazon was once again on the receiving end of the ire of social media users after a controversy brewed when users found that the US version of the website was offering door mats with faces of Hindu Gods and Goddesses printed, online. This prompted the users to take to social media to express their displeasure on the insensitivity shown by the e-commerce platform on allowing the listings to be put up as reported by newscrunch.in .

On further checking the product catalogue, people found that the website also offered doormats with Islamic teachings and figures printed on them in addition to the prints of Jesus Christ. This further infuriated people who went on to call for boycott of the e-commerce giant with the #BoycottAmazon on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
In response Amazon removed all the material that it got complaints for and the products were not accessible or visible on Amazon.com search.
Despite the take down of the products, distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed after thanking Amazon for understanding the concerns of the community, called for an official apology from Amazon. This is not the first time that a prominent brand has been the centre of a controversy on religious grounds, back in January, Fortune Magazine had to apologize for depicting Bezos as Lord Vishnu on cover of it’s magazine.
