A person familiar with the development told the publication that the apps for news service would be a priority. The public broadcaster, he said, has a credible network spanning across the country, which it would put to good use in making these apps. “It has the potential of creating its own niche amid the private news broadcasters,” he said.

The nation’s largest public broadcaster may offer its rare archived and digitised content to users via subscription. Once implemented, it reportedly expects to earn ad revenue to the tune of Rs 200 crores.
