Dishonored selling better than expected, will get sequel: Bethesda

Earlier this year, Bethesda released a rare triple-A stealth game titled Dishonored, which was received very positively by critics and gamers alike. It’s been barely two months since its launch, but it looks like we can expect a sequel to the game. Bethesda has told Destructoid that the critically-acclaimed game is performing better than expected. The developers are keeping mum on the actual figures, but have confirmed that it will be getting a sequel.

“I can tell you that Dishonored is far exceeding our sales expectations, which is especially cool considering it’s a new IP facing a host of well-established franchises this quarter,” said PR chief Pete Hines. “We did terrific numbers again this past weekend, both in stores and on Steam, where Dishonored was listed as the #1 selling title over the holiday weekend. And Dishonored has really sold well overseas. So, we’re very pleased and appreciate all the fans that have supported Dishonored and Arkane. We clearly have a new franchise.__”

Dishonored will be getting a sequel, confirms Bethesda

Back in October, Bethesda announced the first DLC for Dishonored. It is named ‘Dunwall City Trials’, and will see a simultaneous release on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, and the PC. The DLC is set to cost $4.99 or 400 Microsoft Points, which converts to approximately Rs 266. Dunwall City Trials will consist of ten challenge maps that will test out different abilities such as stealth, combat, and mobility. Some of the challenges include an arena battle where you will have to fight against waves of enemies, some drop-down assassinations, and a race that will test your speed. As is usual for DLCs like this, Dunwall City Trials will also include new trophies and achievements, along with a global online leaderboard.

The second and third DLCs for Dishonored will be released in 2013, and will be more focused on story-driven campaigns. In the second DLC, the main focus of the story will be Daud - the leader of a group of supernatural assassins known as The Walkers. It will feature new levels set in Dunwall and you will discover Daud’s weapons and powers. Bethesda will release information on the third DLC closer to its release.

Dishonored is a lot like the older Thief or Hitman games. The game focuses on stealth and gives you multiple ways to finish your objective, along with a wide variety of weapons and powers. Dishonored boasts a number of features not often seen in games these days, such as the capability for pacifist runs, where the player doesn’t kill anybody;  many different ways to finish missions, including stealthy runs where no one sees the character; or an all-out, balls-to-the-walls violent run where the player destroys everything in his path.

Dishonored is available on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC. You can read our review of the PS3 version of the game here.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
