DICE reveals details about new game mode in Battlefield 3: Aftermath

After the recent release of the trailer for the next downloadable content (DLC) for Battlefield 3 – titled Aftermath – developers from DICE have talked about a new game mode making its debut in the DLC, called Scavenger mode, in an interview with VG247 . Aftermath will be set in Tehran after a brutal earthquake.

DICE producer Craig Mcleod gave an introduction to Aftermath’s new mode. “Scavenger really is born out of the Aftermath theme. We wanted the players to feel like, ‘I’ve just been trapped in this earthquake and I’m not going to have all of my equipment, I’m not going to have everything I used to have.’ So you are literally rising up with a pistol, a grenade and a specialisation.”

Mcleod stresses on the importance of exploration of the map and finding new equipment to help you survive. Weapons are going to be tiered in this DLC, with the lowest tier being occupied by sub-machine guns. These will be easy to find near safehouses. “But as you go up through the levels to level three, then you’re really going to have to risk your life to get them.”

Getting more DLC soon!

Scavenger Mode is going to be all about risks and rewards

The game mode is heavily going to depend on the risks you are willing to take, and the rewards you can get. According to Mcleod, “So if you’re on level three you’re in open areas, you’re around the flags, so you know you’re going to encounter someone else out there, and that’s exactly what we’re going for.”

EA has recently released a trailer for Battlefield 3: Aftermath . The trailer mentions several new features coming along with Aftermath, including a new Game Mode, new weapon - weapons including a crossbow, urban warfare, new vehicles, new assignments to unlock more weapons, post-earthquake environments, new achievements, and four new maps. Set amongst the shattered districts, streets and surrounding villages of a post-earthquake Tehran, Battlefield 3: Aftermath depicts a continuing struggle for supremacy and survival amongst the devastation.

With operational capacity severely compromised, the opposing forces must adapt and engage in vertical and horizontal urban combat amongst the dust and rubble, with cracks and fissures in the terrain providing unexpected cover and paths to objectives. Additional support comes in the form of heavily modified troop transports and civilian vehicles specially adapted to deliver deadly force to the enemy.

The last DLC released for Battlefield 3 was Armored Kill. The DLC for the game focuses mainly on vehicular combat on large sprawling maps. Back in July, developers from DICE talked about creating the biggest map the Battlefield series has ever seen for Armored Kill. DICE Designer Inge Jøran Holberg said, “Reading a number of posts by these players in our forums, I personally agreed that even with maps like Operation Firestorm, Kharg Island and Caspian Border, Battlefield 3 lacked a couple of extra-large maps with huge distances and lots of capture points that they have experienced in some of the maps in earlier Battlefield titles to complete the range”.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
