DICE releases teaser trailer for new Star Wars: Battlefront game

At EA’s E3 press conference, the company unveiled a new game in the Star Wars: Battlefront franchise. Developed by DICE, the title of the game doesn’t have any numbers attached to it, so signs point towards it being a reboot of the series. The developers showed off the game in a trailer:

The game, built on the Frostbite 3 engine that DICE developed for the upcoming Battlefield 4, is set to be the studio’s own interpretation of “what Battlefront should be,” according to EA Games Label boss Patrick Söderlund, who greenlit the project.

At the moment, however, not much is known about the game. It is said to be in the early stages of development and will be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

“This is DICE’s interpretation of what Battlefront should be,” Söderlund told Eurogamer. “That’s the best description you can have. There are absolutely things in the previous Battlefront games that you’ll recognise and remember, but DICE wants to put its own flavour on it. That’s the only way we can do it. Hence it’s called Star Wars: Battlefront, without a 3 at the end. We want to say it’s something new. But again, it’s going to be very Star Wars and very cool.”

This is the third major game that DICE is working on right now, with the others being Mirror’s Edge 2 and Battlefield 4.

Star Wars: Battlefront is a series of third-person multiplayer action games which could essentially be described as Battlefield on a smaller scale. The previous games in the series followed the story of the movies, with many of the levels being recognisable from the movies.
